Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Outrigger Canoe Races
Kona Pier, Aug. 31-Sept. 4, contact for times and costs. The Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Outrigger Canoe Races welcomes more than 2,500 outrigger canoe paddlers to Kona for its signature 18-mile long distance race, the world’s largest long-distance outrigger canoe race. Kai Opua Canoe Club, one of Hawaii’s oldest outrigger canoe clubs, will host crews from all over the world. Other official race events unfold throughout the holiday weekend. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘South Pacific’

Parker Ranch Scholarship Rodeo and Horse Auction
Parker Ranch Rodeo Arena, 66-1304 Mamalahoa Hwy, noon Sept. 1, 9 a.m. Sept. 2, $50/minimum contestant fee, $7/gate fee. This rodeo event is a fundraiser to provide educational scholarships for school-age children of Parker Ranch employees. Events include team roping, double mugging, bull riding, junior bull riding, wahine barrel racing, wahine breakaway roping and more. Always fun to watch is the century team roping competition, where one team member must be over the age of 50 and their combined ages must be more than 100. There will also be keiki barrel racing for participants 12 and under, as well as a calf scramble.
