Stained Glass Basics II: Exterior Lamp Project
Volcano Art Center, Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Road, 9 a.m., $130. In this class, taught by Claudia McCall, students will take an off-the-shelf exterior light fixture and replace its existing glass with flat panels constructed during the class. Claudia will provide several patterns from which to choose, though students are welcome to bring their own ideas. Attendees are asked to wear long pants, snug-fitting gloves, covered shoes and safety glasses. Please bring a glass cutter and soldering iron if you have them. Pre-registration required. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Reopening
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, 10 a.m., free. Park officials plan to open sections of the park with a day of free admission for National Public Lands Day. Opening areas include Kilauea Visitor Center, Hawaii Pacific Parks Association store, Crater Rim Trail, Sulphur Banks Trail, Crater Rim Drive to Steam Vents, Kilauea Iki Overlook and parking lot, Devastation Trail and Puu Puai, Crater Rim Drive to Keanakakoi Crater, Mauna Loa Road to Kipukapuaulu, and sections of Escape Road from Highway 11 and Chain of Craters Road. Peace Day Parade
Honokaa Town, 11 a.m., free. The parade will make its way through town with Taiko drummers, hula, bon dancers, cirque performers, singers, and multicultural music and exhibits.
