MIDWEEK
The state Department of Health is making it easier than ever to get the COVID-19 vaccine by expanding walk-in sites and extending hours to cater to busy lifestyles and people on the go. And, thanks to community partners, health care facilities and other organizations, there are now some pretty neat incentives to schedule that first appointment.

“There are many reasons people have not been vaccinated yet,” explains Dr. Libby Char, director of the Hawai‘i Department
of Health. “Some still have questions about the vaccines. The Department of Health will continue its outreach efforts to answer those questions. We want people to make informed decisions that are right for them.”
DOH recently unveiled its #HIGotVacci- nated campaign aimed at boosting inocula- tion rates, especially in the state’s younger demographic, and among undecided indi- viduals and parents.
To address questions and concerns, DOH started an informational campaign, includ- ing four new public service announcements. More information on the state’s vaccine ef- forts can be found at hawaiicovid19.com.

“We want to do everything we can to get more people vaccinated and protect our community from COVID-19,” states Greg Christian, Hawai‘i market president with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Hospi- tals. “We currently have 10 locations across the state giving shots and teams of nurses and physicians vaccinating at schools, churches and community centers.”
A campaign like this wouldn’t be com- plete without some big-ticket items, and #HIGotVaccinated has delivered. Alaska Airlines plans on awarding round-trip tick- ets to a couple of lucky winners, and Va- cations Hawai‘i will be giving away a Las
As of press time, more than 92% of residents age 65 and older have initiated or completed their vaccines, and thanks to the doses Department of Defense and VA are giving out, that percentage could be even higher.
