waited to kick off opening day until after the turkey was gobbled down. The Magical Forest at Opportunity Village celebrated its opening night with a tree-lighting ceremo- ny.
And now, on to Vegas! A new mural (expected to be completed this month) is in the works in Downtown Las Vegas at the Neon Museum. The cre- ators, a husband-and-wife art- ist team, are paying tribute to the diverse communities and lesser-known individuals who helped shape and have signifi- cantly impacted the culture of Las Vegas. This piece is one of many in the Downtown area and will serve as the entry into Neon Museum’s North Gallery immersive show, “Brilliant!”
The Magical Forest is a lo- cal holiday favorite, consist- ing of a “forest” of festively decorated trees and glittering lights and displays, as well as a slide, carousel, train and light show that ends in snow.
This event is the largest fundraiser for the nonprofit, which provides support, edu- cation and vocational training to adults with developmental disabilities.
The Entertainment Capital of the World is now becoming the hot spot for entertainers to open restaurants. The Voice judge, country singer Blake Shelton, is bringing his Ole Red bar, restaurant and music venue to the Grand Bazaar Shops outside of Bally’s in 2023. Meanwhile, the Jonas Brothers’ new restaurant, Nellie’s Southern Kitchen, is scheduled to open at MGM Grand in early 2022.
If a casino is on your Christ- mas list, MGM has announced it will be selling the Mirage.
Speaking of the holidays, one very lucky Hawai‘i res- ident was on Santa’s nice list this year. A Main Street Station guest headed back home to the islands after winning a $1 mil- lion jackpot.
