Lately, I’ve been sharing a lot of clothes with my mom. But, let me clarify the term “sharing,” as she’s a dedicated front-to-back MidWeek reader, who loves Ron Nagasawa’s column. (I’m kind of sure she loves my column, too. Or, at least I know she reads it so I have to be truthful.)
this multicolored flowy top with light blue, teals, yel- lows, greens and a touch of salmon (see photo). She bought it for her- self on a trip to Seattle a few years ago, but I’ ve worn it more within the past month than she has, well, ever.
When I say sharing, I mean I find these real- ly retro-looking pieces made with great mate- rial — I’m talking 100% breathable polyester — in pops of color and cool patterns that are lacking in my own closet ... and then I bor- row (take) them. I’ m unintentionally trying her wardrobe, and I love it.

Book Pick Of The Week
Assistance Dogs of Hawai‘i has seen dozens of canines go through its service animal program since its inception in 2000. The Maui-based organization trains dogs who help people with disabilities and special needs, and its executive director and co-founder Maureen “Mo” Maurer published a book telling the stories of these amazing dogs and the work they do for the people of Hawai‘i. In Wonder Dogs: True Stories of Extraordinary Assistance Dogs (which came out last month), Maurer shares about everything from the puppies visiting patients in the hospital to the service dogs that help people live their daily lives. And, fun fact, gracing the cover is the nonprofit’s “wonder dog,” Tucker, a golden retriever who
served Hawai‘i’s keiki for a decade at Kapi‘olani Medical Center for
Women & Children. Learn more at assistancedogshawaii.org. Find
Wonder Dogs online and where books are sold.
Author J.H. James recently came out with I’m Third (find it on Amazon), which shares the secrets to success he’s accumulated during his decadeslong career as a motivational speaker, personal development coach and a corporate strategic planning consultant. Chapters focus on individual themes — like trust, procrastination, leadership, mental muscle and more — and share quotes from celebrities, notable professionals and his own experiences related
to the topic. “The premise of the book is that true success is a product of helping others to succeed,” shares James, who is CEO of local company James Consulting LLC.
